Behold.....A Scarf! My very first project

After a couple of weeks of trying, I have finally finished my very first crochet project. I started off making a purple scarf for myself. When I tell you it was a complete MESS, please believe me! And to think I thought I was doing it right. As I went along with the crooked edges, I was thinking that a trim was supposed to go around the outside of it to straighten them out. I couldn’t have been more wrong. I guess that’s what happens when you teach yourself a craft. It’s all about trial and error. So after working on this scarf for about a week, I decided that it was too hideous for me to look at any longer and no amount of trim would be able to fix it. I unraveled the entire scarf. I even threw away the unraveled yarn. I think I was tired of looking at purple.

So anyway, I started a new scarf, this time for my daughter in green (her favorite color and mine). I watched a couple of YouTube videos before started and realized that I was starting in the wrong stitch as I was turning the chain. The scarf came out pretty even. It took me about 4 days total to make it (I’m a bit slow, but hey I’m a newbie). The extra time also includes the time I spent learning to make a flower. I wanted it to really look like a child’s scarf. Boy oh, oh boy, now that was a task. The lady on the video tutorial made it look so easy. NOT. Well, not yet anyway. Hopefully with time I’ll be able to do it in a jiffy. My first few flowers end up looking like a purple 4 leaf clover. But in the end I prevailed with a nice 5 petal flower. I also added two-color fringe. That was pretty easy.

All in all, I’m proud of myself and my first crocheted item. Now, I must decide what to make next. Decisions, decisions….
